Emmett's Picture Post

As promised, here are some pictures. Since Emmett was born so late at night, we will not be going home until tomorrow morning which is perfectly fine with me. Thankfully, our electricity at home was restored earlier today. I should have plenty of details to share with Emmett when it comes to the weather conditions surrounding his arrival. This morning a nurse came into my room and told me that we were under a code white which sounded terribly official. It just meant that all the mommies had to go and wait out the tornado warning in the nursery with our little ones. This suited Emmett just fine as he chose to pass the time by nursing. He is a little barracuda. Anyway, hope you enjoy these pics!

Emmett Wilson Kilpatrick..........

is here.
He arrived on August 23rd at 11:17 p.m. He weighed 7lbs and was 19 1/2 inches long. We are so grateful to the Lord for our little man's safe arrival. I haven't uploaded the pictures just yet so this will be the post with the details and the visuals will come later:) I'll try to keep it brief.
I started having contractions on Friday afternoon. They seemed to be somewhat strong and close together. Ross and I were in Auburn so we decided that instead of driving 45 minutes back home, we would drive 5 minutes to the hospital and see if this was the real thing. After about three hours of observation and no progression toward delivery on my part, we decided that I was most likely having Braxton Hicks. The doctor gave me the option of going ahead with an inducement, but I decided to hold off. We got home around 11 p.m. and went to bed. Contractions started again at about 3 a.m. I spent all of Saturday experiencing contractions on and off. Around 4 p.m. they increased in intensity and became regular. We decided to head for the hospital. I forgot to mention that the weather outside was bad. Fay was having her way. Our power went out just as we were leaving. It stormed all the way to the hospital. Our gas light was on and I felt like I had a split personality. The intensity of the contractions by this point was beyond anything I had ever felt during my entire labor and delivery experience with Ellie Kate. During my contractions, I swear my voice would lower and my head would spin. I used the lull between contractions to apologize to Ross for anything that I had said. I wasn't vulgar just firm. We stopped and got gas, a snicker's bar, and coke and then with flashers on we headed for the hospital. Ross dropped me off at the front door. I made my way to the 3rd floor nurses' station. I was taken to the observation room that we had been in the night before. When the nurse checked me I was already 5c.m. and completely thinned out.
Due to a tornado warning, we were unable to move to another room right away. I had to have something like two bags of fluid before I could get an epidural. I basicly went thru all of my labor and received the epidural just prior to delivery. We eventually got to move into the delivery suite. In an attempt to keep those who are pregnant and read this blog encouraged, I will spare readers the details of my labor.
At 11:17 p.m. Ross and I were able to meet our little man. All of those previously mentioned details pale in comparison to that very moment. Emmett is just perfect and Ross and I know that we are very, very blessed to say the least. Due to the time of his arrival, we are functioning on little to no sleep so I hope this post makes any sense whatsoever. We are definitely still at that surreal stage, but we are all healthy and happy. (and we just found out that our power back home is still off----thanks Fay.)

Fireproof

Ross and I had the opportunity to see an advanced screening of the movie "Fireproof". We both loved it. I laughed. I cried. It was phenomenal. We talked about the movie all the way home and I cannot tell you how excited I am to see how God will use this wonderful tool to draw many to Himself.

How I Feel Right Now

If someone were to take a straight pin and stick it in my belly, I would promptly deflate like a balloon. I would go flying around the room sporadically making a "wooooooooooossssshhhhhhh" type of noise.

Emmett's Nursery

I am not one for picking out a pattern when it comes to decorating a nursery. I like to just gather things as I go. So that's why our little man's nursery is sort of a hodgepodge.
The scripture over his crib says,"Show me your ways, O Lord, guide me in Your truth and teach me." Psalm 25:4-5. The Winnie-the-Pooh in the rocking chair belonged to my sister when she was a baby so it's more than 30 years old. I still have to place some pictures in frames but other than that we're finished.

The Waiting Game...

It's easy to see by the little ticker on our blog that I have very few days to go and that's if I make it to my due date. Seeing as how I am already progressing we are thinking that our little man could arrive at any moment. It is such a surreal feeling. The other night I could not turn my mind off (I mean I finally get the thing going). It rained all night which sounded wonderful, but all I could do was toss and turn. I got up and took Bunny outside a couple of times and then at 3 a.m. I decided that some cookies and chocolate milk could do the trick.

Basicly I feel pretty torn. There's a part of me that is sad. Don't get me wrong. This pregnancy is completely a blessing. It's just the transition to another stage of life. Before I had Ellie Kate I had to reconcile the fact that it would no longer be just Ross and me. Of course little Priss is such a precious part of our family just as Emmett will be. Now I've gotten use to having tons of one on one time with my little girl. I can take in her every expression and comment. (Even as a type she is tending to her baby doll in the background. Earlier she told me,"I got my hands full", as she carried around her baby dolls, Dorothy and Emmett.)

So anyway, the reality of another child can be very daunting. I do know that God is so very good and He will guide us into this new stage of our lives. He has blessed me with such a wonderful husband who is about to bust to meet his little boy. Whatever trials and changes are to take place will only be overshadowed by the joy that is to be ours in the blessing of another precious life. I just cannot help but wonder when he will arrive:)

I had a doctor's appointment on Friday and let's just say that Emmett could be making his grand entrance any day now. That being said, Ellie Kate's birthday isn't until August 31st, but we had already decided to have her party this weekend so that she wouldn't miss out.

We had such a great time. The party was in Ariton at my parents' home. The weather was beautiful so we were able to spend alot of time in the pool which is right where Ellie Kate wanted to be. We had lots of family to help us celebrate. My brother even drove from Louisiana. It was such a fun surprise!

The Birthday Bunny

That's right. Tomorrow is Bunny's 7th birthday. I am ashamed that I am having to post so many old pictures of her. The ones with the crown on are from her 4th birthday when we lived in Louisville, KY. That party was a surprise as you can tell by the look on her face. We had actually invited our Sunday school class over. As I am holding her, they are all singing "Happy Birthday". She then proceeded to devour her cupcake from 3 dog bakery (after making a wish and blowing out the candle, of course).

Bunny use to have a crown every year and she would also put on a dress. In 2006 her birthday coincided with Ross's ordination. We had alot to celebrate on that day. As you can guess, Bunny's birthdays have not been the same for the past couple of years. After Ellie Kate's arrival the attention shifted just a wee bit. So I included a few pictures to show Bunny fulfilling her role as the "big sister". About a year and a half ago, Bunny was hit by a truck. She pulled thru but lost sight in her left eye (and gained a few pounds). She is obviously still beautiful and very loved by her family. Anywho, Ross says that she is a 'what have you done for me lately' pet. I just say that she is fabulous!

Bowling or Not

Ross and Joseph (the lone youth) bowled. I offered support and surprisingly props to the bowling alley food:) That's right, the best club sandwich and fries I have had in a while. I just thought it would not be right for an advanced prego like myself to beat both Ross and Joseph at bowling. Ha!

Ready to go to Church

Yeah...I haven't quite figured the whole picture thing out. Anyway, this was Ellie Kate on Sunday morning ready to go to church. She'll say,"Daddy preewch". Bunny is elated to be included in the photos. Can't you tell?

Potty time?

So I realize that she will really appreciate this photo one day. I got her training potty out for the first time. She loved it! She even pulled it into the hall to sit on it and then accidentally tee-teed in it. Of course I made a big deal out of it. She always wants to sit on her potty now. She tells me,"My go potty." However, we are not aggressively potty training. I cannot say that I know what we are doing exactly. We do have the Elmo potty time video and book. We will see.

Showered

The sweet people at our church gave me a baby shower last weekend. Ross and I were excited to open all of the boy stuff. We are use to pink so we have some adjusting to do. Ellie Kate also had gifts to open. She got a coloring book with crayons, a tiara (Ross had her waving at everyone saying,"Bless you child."), and a baby doll which she named Emmett.

If Bunny goes missing I know where to find her. She loves Ellie Kate's chair. It's just the right size.

Oh yeah.....about being absentminded.......

I am soooo sad. I was going to bake some chocolate chip cookies so I set the timer, pre-heated the oven, and placed the cookies in the oven while I sat down to catch up on some email. The thing that I forgot to do what to START the timer. My poor overbaked cookies. I could seriously cry.

Always Time for Tea...

This is not the newest picture, but I thought it would be great for my first post. I am not the best when it comes to keeping in touch with well, anyone. But this cute little picture reminds me to always take time and just catch up. I'm sure that's what Bunny and Ellie Kate were doing. It has been wonderful to look in on my friends' lives thru their blogs. The idea of keeping up with a blog about my family has been just that...an idea. Really this is a prime time for me to just get started. In five weeks (give or take a few days) our new addition will be arriving. Hopefully if I set up our blog now, I'll be able to keep up with daily happenings as we go. So without further delay welcome to the Kilpatricks' lives. Hope you enjoy!
